Enjoy the real Chinese tea experience!

  • "When does tea expire?"

Tea doesn’t really go “bad” or “expired” like other food. Over time, tea will lose flavor which reduces the quality. Some tea age like wine, and therefore only get better when you keep them stored for several years. Pu'er is the best example of aging tea.

  • "Where should I store tea?"

Most teas are best kept under dark and dry condition, sealed in a closed container until using (and, after opened, kept as close to sealed as possible).

Considering this, MOUYA supplies most tea in little separate packages, which are then packed into re-sealable foiled bags. Each separate pack is recommended to 1~2 person amount, and you can keep the rest leaves sealed.

Some people like to keep teas in fridge or freezer. It does help to keep tea fresh by keeping it under low temperature; however, this would add moisture to tea leaves and reduce tea flavor over time. Please seal the tea containers carefully if you decide to keep your teas in this way.

Not all teas need to be kept sealed. Chinese raw Pu'er improves its quality by being kept to open air while the tea leaves can absorb water and naturally ferment year after year.
  • "How do I make a good cup of tea?"

    Tea is Art!

As Chinese tea specialists, we believe there are no strict rules to make tea as long as you enjoy it. We have recommended brewing instruction on each product page to give general ideas as reference, especially for new tea fans. These instructions are according to our experiences, but not a have-to-do way.

Even if following the same procedure, tea would taste different under different internal reasons (including your mood, your taste preference, etc) and external conditions (such as surrounding environment, air temperature and humility, water quality, etc). You’re welcome to follow our recommendation or adjust it to your own favorite method.

  • "Are your teas organic?"

While some of our teas are organic, most are not. This is simply due to the fact that experience has shown us most organic labeled teas are with lower quality but much higher price. All of our teas are directly purchased from Chinese tea farmers, and some of the teas are grown inside wide mountains. Those teas are not from official organic gardens, but actually grow under completely natural situation.

  • "Are your teas fair trade?"

There is only very few real fair trade tea farms in China. So few, in fact, that it is just a way for big tea export companies to improve their reputation. Not even mentioning the higher prices on lower quality teas.

We appreciate the idea, so we always try our best to take care of everyone who had contributed to your cup of tea! We buy teas directly from farmers and make sure they get fair income. Although MOUYA is still young, we are already setting up a system to help farmers when they encounter life difficulties, when they do exceptional works, when they would like to share experiences.
